Marriot Manila
Recently, a group of friends and family stayed at the Manila Marriott. I wanted to give you a quick hotel review. Due to the short period of time I was there, I can't give you a complete review, but wanted to share my experience. Overall, my experience was positive and without issue. Considering the location and convenience, I would consider staying there again. Also, as members in my party do not have a lot of experience traveling in Asia and were overly reliant (spoiled) on western standards and amenities, the Marriott proved a satisfactory option for accommodations as it was something they were familiar with and accustomed to.

The Marriott Manila is part of the large Resorts World Manila located in Pasay near the NAIA complex. It consists of 3 hotels, a large casino and a shopping mall. You can find out more at www.rwmanila.com. This facility is very similar to other Resorts World located throughout Asia including the one I visited in Singapore last year on Sentosa Island.

On arrival, the lobby is impressive. A large open area reaching up two stories with access to the business center, gym and spa. After passing through a set of metal detectors and x-ray machines manned by hotel security, you arrive at the lobby and reception. Your bags are handled by hotel staff from the x-ray machine thru reception to your room.

Note of caution, you do not
have control of your bags unless you intentionally wish to as the hotel staff will deliver them to your room for you. This is nice if you want to check out the lobby or visit one of the four restaurants and coffee shops located there including the Cru Steakhouse, Velocity Bar, Marriott Cafe and the Lobby Lounge.

Check in was fairly brief and everything appeared to be done via computer and not the routine paper drill you find in a lot of Filipino hotels. The reception staff was proficient and courteous. Within 5 minutes, we were checked in and off to our rooms to relax after our 4 hour drive from Olongapo. Check-in is 3:00 PM and Check-out time is 11:00 AM although we arranged for a modified schedule without issue.

In the limited time we were guests, we chose not to eat in the hotel restaurants so I can't give you any feedback on them but instead went next door to the Resorts World area, which is connected by a series of indoor corridors. There you have a wide selection of options for eating and high end shopping including over 40 restaurants and cafes located in the Newport Mall area. This was convenient as it also gave mahal an opportunity to spend some money.

There are 323 rooms in the hotel spread over its 8 floors including 19 high dollar suites. Our room located on the 5th floor was nicely appointed with what you'd expect for a room of this hotel and price. For our standard room, the cost was $150 USD a night. The room was nice, the big screen TV was really cool as was the king size bed. Comparatively, it was similar to Lewis Grand in style and size. One of the things I didn't like was the hall ways were dimly lit and narrow. It seemed like they were trying to save money by not lighting the place properly.

The bathroom was the highlight of the room with a large tub and shower large enough for two to enjoy together complete with complimentary bath robes to lounge around the room in except they really weren't large enough for a full size keno...Filipino yes, foreigner no.

As the Marriott is located near NAIA, they offer a shuttle to all terminals. Our party, consisting of 4 people were catching three different flights at various times. The free shuttle is available to get you from NAIA Terminals 1, 2 and 3 to Marriott Manila, Resorts World and vice versa .The shuttle service is a yellow-wrapped 18-seater bus that operates 24/7 and has an interval of 40mins.

Check out was as equally routine as check in with each of our party departing at different times with no issues. Each took the free shuttle and was at NAIA to make their flight schedule.
