Royal Amsterdam
The Royal Amsterdam hotel was opened in 2004 and in four short years has gained an enviable reputation as the perfect place to stay for those who enjoy the nocturnal lifestyle of Fields Avenue. The hotel is literally situated in the heart of the action and as such is within walking distance of all the major Fields avenue bars. It is also conveniently close to Clark Airbase and allows easy access to SM Mall and other activities on the base.

As the name would suggest the hotel is designed around a Dutch theme and the feeling of practicality combined with old warm charm and elegance is pervasive throughout the entire hotel.

The hotels façade is designed to replicate an old style Dutch house whilst the interior features extensive use of varnished wood, soft mellow lighting, eloquently designed wood carvings, mock Rembrandt paintings, wall to wall carpeting in all rooms, ornate stair banisters, functional furnishings and designer drapes.

These features are combined with modern facilities such as direct dial telephones, internet connections, mini-bar, room safes, air conditioning, cable television, 24 hour room service, a 24 hour doctor on call, travel assistance, full transportation services, laundry services, 24 hour information and assistance from the friendly professional staff, all of which combine to make the Royal Amsterdam an attractive mix of old world charm and modern functionality.

The Royal Amsterdam is very much like a large boutique hotel comprising a total of 39 rooms. Originally it was Woodys pub but those days are long gone and in the place of Woodys is an eloquent, functional, immaculately maintained hotel. Unlike some of the bigger hotels it does not have a swimming pool but rather they have utilized the available space for hotel rooms.

When I asked the managers do they find the lack of a swimming pool a drawback they replied “Not at all, in fact we find most of our guests are nocturnal and stay here because it is a comfortable hotel right in the middle of Angeles nightlife, a swimming pool does not seem to be a necessary prerequisite for our guests".

The centerpiece of this hotel is the atrium with a light blue see through roof. The hotel comprises 4 floors of rooms with the majority of them built around the atrium.

An important part of any hotel is the lobby/ front desk area. The lobby creates the initial impression for the customer and the front desk acts as the nerve center for the entire hotel.

The lobby area is compact and functional. The ladies that attend the front desk are courteous and efficient always ready to help the customers with any enquiries they may have. To the front right hand side is a comfortable seating area which accommodates both visitors and hotel patrons alike.
On the left hand side is the very popular Royal Amsterdam restaurant which serves both as an eating and meeting place.

The restaurant / bar area is open 24 hours and provides a wide selection of dishes including Asian, European & Filipino cuisine. The restaurant is spotlessly clean with sturdy yet light weight wooden tables, subdued lighting and centralized air conditioning.

The restaurant is very popular with locals and hotel patrons alike providing an excellent venue to meet with friends and colleagues for breakfast, lunch, dinner or just for a social drink and relaxation. The bar is fully stocked with a large range of local and imported drinks complete with an extensive cocktail list.

The most important element of any hotel is its rooms and in the Royal Amsterdam the rooms combine plush eloquence and functional practicality. There is a otal of 39 rooms divided into seven different categories. All the rooms are tastefully designed and appointed with luxurious furnishings and first class amenities. Each room has wall to wall carpet, heavily draped windows, a large coil spring bed, coffee tables with two seats, comfortable lounges and furniture, extensive cupboard space, personal safe, fine wooden finishing, decorative wall paper, designer made bed heads, subdued lighting, clean bathrooms, refrigerator and mini-bar, cable television, and direct dial telephone.

There are 2 Economy Rooms which are approximately 15 square meters with wall to wall carpeting, decorative wall paper, queen sized bed, coil spring mattress, 1 night stand, 21” color TV Refrigerator, Mini-bar, personal safe, telephone and a full length mirror.

There are 4 Economy Deluxe Room and are approximately 20 square meters with wall to wall carpeting, decorative wall paper, queen sized bed, coil spring mattress, 2 night stands, 21” color TV, desk and chair, internet connection, refrigerator, mini bar, personal safe, telephone and a full length mirror.

There are 23 Superior Rooms in the hotel and are approximately 32 square meters with wall to wall carpeting decorative wall paper king size bed, coil spring mattress, 2 night stands, 25” color TV, desk and chair, internet connection, refrigerator, mini - bar, personal safe, and a full length mirror. Some superior rooms come with either a 2 leather sofas and a table or with coffee table and end table.

There are 2 Superior Deluxe Rooms in the hotel and are approximately 42 square meters with wall to wall carpeting, decorative wall paper, king sized bed, coil spring mattress, 2 night stands, 25” color TV, DVD player, desk and chair, Internet connection, Refrigerator, mini bar, personal safe, telephone and a full length mirror. This luxury room comes with a 3 seat plush leather sofa, 2 plush leather arm chairs, coffee table and end table.

There are 4 Jacuzzi Rooms in this hotel and are approximately 42 square meters with wall to wall carpeting decorative wall paper, king size bed, coil spring mattress, 2 night stands, 25” color TV, DVD player, desk and chair, internet connection, mini bar, personal safe, telephone and full length mirror. This luxury room comes with a three seat plush leather sofa, a plush leather arm chair, coffee table and end table. A special feature of this room is the Jacuzzi which features two water heaters so the Jacuzzi heats up quickly and each Jacuzzi can easily accommodate 2 fully grown adults.

Panorama Suite is literally two rooms combined into one. The room is a massive 80 square meter suite with wall to wall carpeting and decorative wall paper.
In the first room you have a kitchen bar with sink, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, hot water kettle, blender, toaster oven, plates, glasses and tableware, bar stools around the bar area so that you can sit while eating or having a drink. There is also a desk and chair with a laptop, internet connection and telephone. A complete living room set with DVD player and a 29” color TV. In the bed room there is a king size bed, 2 night stands, a triple dresser 25” color TV, DVD player, internet connection, telephone, 2 full length mirrors and a large Jacuzzi with two water heaters.

This really is a huge top of the line luxury room perfect for individuals who desire that extra bit of luxury or as a group party booking. With the subdued lighting, the tastefully designed atrium as a center piece, the ornate decorations, the mock Rembrandt replica paintings, spacious rooms with wall to wall carpets, pastel colored wall paper and little touches such as stained wooden skirting’s throughout the hotel, the Royal Amsterdam is a delicate mix of old world charm and modern functionality situated in the heart of the Angeles city entertainment district.

The entire hotel is spotlessly clean and the attention to detail is evident everywhere you look. For example all the rooms have double glass windows, ornate drapes and foam insulation between the outside brick and inside walls. This is done deliberately to minimize the intrusion of the noisy streets and ensure the privacy of all guests.

This hotel has several selling points not the least of which is its centralized location which offers patrons easy access to the major bars of Fields Avenue. This hotel is literally smack bang in the center of the action and yet once inside it is like an exclusive little world enjoyed by its guests and visitors alike.
